This issue I will be taking a look at a website called Fables. This is a quarterly, semi-pro paying site. For those of you who are looking for a home for a good story with those fable twists at the end, I highly recommend this site. For those of you who just like to read good stories, go and enjoy.

Fables has a very pleasant look with an easy to navigate menu. There are no moving graphics, no pop ups and the font is easy to read. If you don't have time to look at all of the stories you can go to the icon labeled "Great Hall" and briefly read the first paragraph of the current story selections to see if anything interests you. The quality of writing is very good and the stories kept me reading. There are stories from many different cultures around the world to satisfy just about any taste. Well-known fairy tales and ancient myths from around the world are posted on the "Crown and Thistle" page.

I try to find sites that have something others don't. Fables offers an audio section of stories you can listen to. You will need Real Audio Player to listen to the readings. If you don't have it you can get the free download right from the Audio index page.

Fables also has a poetry section and an art gallery. There is a very nice drawing of "The Children of Ler" by Megan Powell. The book reviews are literary, concise and to the point. There is a page of links to a large number of other writing, graphic art, and publisher sites that is worth checking out. A few of the links lead to pages that can't be found at the time of this publication.

For submissions, they must all be sent electronically to the appropriate editor. Multiple submissions are accepted as well as simultaneous submissions but you must let them know about it. They take exclusive rights for ninety days but the authors and artists retain copyrights. The work will be archived but the author/artist may request their work be removed at any time after the ninety-day period. Fables does not accept fan-fiction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this site. I give it a rating of
