The Buckeye Anthology is a well-designed site dedicated to the art of metrical poetry.

While I confess to being quite the uninitiated when it comes to poetry, I was very impressed by the site and by the poems that I read. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read the anthology itself but the rest of the site can be viewed with a normal browser. The easy to use menu is located in the left margin.

According to the second page of the anthology:

"The Buckeye Anthology is designed to be a showcase of New Formalist poetry, with one of its major goals being to present quality metrical poetry to the reading public. The editorial staff would like to recognize the masterful writers who are striving to bring formalism back to a place of prominence in the world of art."

The Buckeye is currently seeking submissions of metrical poetry of all forms, both serious and humorous. Authors need not be previously published but all submissions must be of high quality to be accepted. They accept reprints so long as they are notified where the piece was previously published. They are also interested in essays, critiques or reviews of books or events of poetic interest. Published on a quarterly basis on the 15th of every June, September, December and March, the deadline for submissions is the 1st of those months. Any submission received after the 1st will be held for consideration for the following issue.

One time e-publication rights are used, but works are archived on the site. This is the Buckeye's first issue but if they are going to archive in PDF format then the odds of having an archived piece removed from the site will be difficult, so please keep this in mind when submitting.

Navigating the site couldn't be easier. The font is a bit small in the anthology itself but this is easily corrected by using the tool bar at the top of the page (just look for the magnifying glass). With a slow modem like mine, the pages of the anthology do take a few seconds to load but the delay is minimal.

The Buckeye Anthology comes highly recommended to all poets.
