Traveling through the many twisted paths of the Internet, I came across a delightful sight called Abyss & Apex, a speculative fiction e-zine with a clean look and quality stories. Visit the e-zine at: (http://www.klio.net/abyssandapex/index.html).

Abyss and Apex features a simple layout that makes navigation easy even for the neophyte web browser. There are no annoying pop-ups/unders and no flashing banners to distract from enjoying the stories presented there. The home pages features the latest stories and the menu directly under the top frame. The menu appears in a left hand column on the subsequent pages. Stories are all printed on a white background with a clean black font.

The editors are currently looking for good flash fiction. The e-zine does pay  US $.05/word (five cents a word) up to a maximum of $75.00, on contract. While they are actively looking for flash fiction, they are interested in stories up to 10,000 words.

Their submissions pages includes the following information:

"We want strong fantasy, magic realism, science fiction, and especially those genrebending stories that don't quite seem to fit anywhere. Our tastes span the gamut from classic Golden-Age SF to modern nontraditional formats. We don't mind experimental styles. We are, however, discriminating. And opinionated."

This market is also open to poetry and pays a flat rate of $5.00 US.

An enjoyable and well-presented site, I rate Abyss & Apex at  * * * * 1/2
stars.
