Nightmare Magazine: Earn $300 for Horror Short Stories
Nightmare Magazine is a paying horror short fiction market, seeking original horror and dark fantasy short stories. The editors encourage writers to take some risks and ‘push the envelope’ with their fiction.
All types of horror and dark fantasy fiction are welcomed, and no subject should be considered off-limits. Stories containing sexual themes or sexual content are acceptable, although writers should remember that Nightmare is not an erotica market.
No poetry or fan-fiction will be considered.
Stories must be between 1,500 and 7,000 words, but the editors prefer horror short stories of 5,000 words or less, where possible.
Payment is 6 cents per word, paid on acceptance.
Nightmare Magazine will occasionally accept reprints of previously published word. In general, the editors will publish 2 reprints per month, however the majority of reprints are directly solicited. The editors will only accept reprints that are not currently available anywhere else online. Payment for reprints is 1 cent per word.
Nightmare Magazine has strict submission times. Always check the website to ensure the magazine is open to submissions before submitting anything. The editors will not accept simultaneous submissions or multiple submissions.
Nightmare Magazine is a qualifying market for membership in both HWA and SFWA.
All stories must be submitted via their online submission form. No email submissions will be accepted. The editors will require you to upload a cover letter along with your story manuscript.
