Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine is now accepting electronic submissions of mystery fiction stories.
The Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine is an award-winning publication that has been in circulation since 1941. Stories should contain a strong, exciting plot and professional craftmanship. The editors encourage writers to read previous issues to gain a clearer idea of the preferred style and tone before submitting
According to their website, the magazine prefers submissions ranging between 2,500 words and 8,000 words, but they will occasionally accept stories as long as 12,000 words. Stories submitted must be original work and must be unpublished elsewhere (no reprints will be accepted).
The pay rate offered for accepted submissions is $.05 - $.08 cents per word for short stories.
Excerpt from the website:
Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine welcomes submissions from both new and established writers. We publish every kind of mystery short story: the psychological suspense tale, the deductive puzzle, the private eye case—the gamut of crime and detection from the realistic (including the policeman’s lot and stories of police procedure) to the more imaginative (including “locked rooms” and “impossible crimes”).
